Hannah - Rocksalt Photography
We love photography here at Disko Kids and this year we want to feature as many photographers as we can here on the blog.
After being given a 35mm camera when she was 11 years old, photography became a constant love in Hannah's life. Through school she was always going to be a photographer. After studying Fine Art Photography at University the dream was becoming a reality.
We caught up with Hannah and asked her about her photography & her how she came to Rocksalt Photography.
Tell us about a bit about your background - what you studied / what made you want to start up?
I studied Fine Art Photography in Cardiff - I started shooting a few friends weddings and after being a school photographer for a couple of years (YUCK!!) I decided to set up Rocksalt Photography.
Where do you find new inspiration for your photography?
Other photographers - there are so many AMAZING photographers out there right now and great communities online to seek advice and share inspiration.
Who are some of your favourite photographers?
Eve Arnold and Cindy Sherman have always been massive influences on my work since University where I studied Fine Art.
This past couple of years I have been lucky enough to meet some kick ass photographers who continue to inspire and support me :
Camera Hannah, Hannah Millard, Lisa Devlin, Agnes Black & Mark Pacura.
What’s your favourite subject?
People, all the way.

What do you find most challenging about your photography?
Trends…. They change so much and it can be hard trying to resist the new looks out there, but I’m always aware that they will date with time.
Favourite IG filter?
I don’t tend to use filters - I do all my editing on my Mac, but if I had to choose I’d say Lark
Any tips for IG users?
HASHTAG! Use hashtags that you feel will attract the people that you want as your audience.
Do you have kids? How do you work your photography around family life?
Yes, I have a boy (6) Girl (4) and we live on a farm. Neil my husband farms alongside his lovely Mum. I’m not gonna lie! It’s tough at times juggling the childcare especially through the summer holidays when i’m at my busiest time. But we have family around us and great friends that always help and they usually get a little photo session for their time :)
What music do you listen to? Have your kids inherited your music taste?
We’re pretty old school - we listen to a lot of my dad’s old vinyl, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Bowie have been on the turntable this month.
The kids raid our cd collection so it’s 90s feels or 70s vibes in our house. The kids are into the Foo’s, Stereophonics and Micheal Jackson at the moment.

I’m a home bird! Give me a blanket, bottle of wine and Strictly and i’m a happy Mama.
Any exciting future plans to share?
The Giraffe Shed! We are currently building a wedding venue on our farm - because sure we have the time right?!!! Go check out or Insta - @thegiraffeshed
