Talk us through your mixtape - What’s each track / artist and why its on your Mixtape?
Track 1 - Nena - 99 Red Balloons
I grew up in Germany as my dad was in the RAF and this takes me back to then! I know all the words to this in German!
Track 2 Massive Attack -Unfinished Sympathy
This remains my favourite track of all time, I remember being blown away the first time I heard it. I was 16 and it was my transitional child to adult song.
Track 3 - Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit
I lost my virginity to this track...nuff said
Track 4
Donna Summer - I feel Love
I spent my life being called Donna Summer at school but I didn’t mind because I loved Disco and still do!
Track 5 - Freedom 90 - George Michael
I’m still in denial about him leaving this mortal plain, I adored him and am so happy to have been young in the 90s as I feel like he belonged to my generation - he was my first crush.
Track 6
Prince - Sign of the Times
What can I say, the man was a genius, there were always those who liked Michael Jackson and those who liked Prince...I fell into the latter and dare I say cooler category.
Track 7 - Madonna - Hung up
I loved and still love Madonna but this song also references ABBA another of my guilty pleasures & this was the song playing on the radio when I was mid Labour with my daughter and it takes me right back! Glad both Madonna and Abba were with me in spirit in the delivery room.
Track 8 - Radiohead - Talk show host
Again radio head v much a band for generation x but this song was on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack in 1996 and reminds me of the summer I met my husband.
Track 9 - Jonny Cash -Jackson
I love this song so much I named my son after it. Jonny cash and June carter cash were couple goals in every sense.
Track 10 - Here Comes The Sun - Beatles
I’m a scouser and my favourite Beatle is George so this is a natural choice but it was the song that I heard the day I found out I was expecting my son...I knew he was a boy and I took it as a sign...”here comes the son”
Xx
