Inspired by her twin daughters Delilah and Orla (the 'Lala girls'!), Lala Loves Decor is a design-led creative business specialising in perfect decorations for your kid's nursery or bedroom. From wooden bunting and wall hangings to sweet dream eyes and personalised acrylic name signs, there's something for everyone to love. We spoke to founder Kelly to hear about what inspires her and which independent businesses she's loving.

Tell us about Lala Loves Decor - how did you start?

I started Lala Loves Decor when my twin girls started pre-school. I wanted to do something creative in the time I had free. The idea just came to me one day when I was redecorating my girls' bedroom - I started thinking about products for their room and the ideas started flowing! I began making wooden decor and then added acrylic pieces, and I started sharing my products on Instagram...it went from there!

How do you fit your work around your kids?

I have 4 year old twin girls, and I always worked when they were at pre-school for 2 days but mostly during the evenings and weekends. Now they have just started school so I have a lot more time to dedicate to my business.

Where do you find your inspiration?

My biggest source of inspiration is my daughters, I think about what they would like and what would look good in our home and go from there. I'm also a huge fan of Pinterest and I love nothing more than flicking through a stack of magazines.

What did you do before starting Lala Loves Decor?

I studied photography at Nottingham Trent University and went on to have a career behind the scenes in photography, first in publishing then in stock photography. My role was for a small photographic agency where I was the production manager and a photo editor. I decided not to go back after having the twins.

Any other independent brands you'd like to spread the word about?

There are so many amazing independent brands who I love and have found through Instagram, and I now have many of their products in my home. For prints, I adore the original and contemporary style of Wonder and Rah, Ingrid Petrie Design and Ella and the Roo. For gorgeous textile decor there's Never Perfect Studio, The Bear and The Bird and the queen of garlands Velveteen Babies. For wooden decor and beautiful gifts for young children I'd recommend Happy Little Folks, for clothing Disko Kids, Lennie and Co and Magnificent Stanley. For dinnerware accessories I love Buddy and Bear, the best style and quality baby blankets has to be Marjorie Minnie and for well-made scandi-style furniture I'd suggest Plyconic.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I've always been into dance music and my favourites have been Flix Da Housecat, Metronomy, The Rapture, Hot Chip, Matthew Herbet and Disclosure. Nowadays though, I listen to the radio - either 6Music or Heart FM depending on my mood!

Have the twins inherited your music taste?

They both love music, we try and introduce them to all different styles. They're currently into The Beatles!

Party out or party at home - Discuss!

I don't really party at home, I'm such a home body now. I love cosying up on the sofa with a beer and a takeaway followed by an early night. But every now and again I do love to go 'out out' with friends and drink prosecco and cocktails and generally get carries away chatting and drinking and having fun 'til late - until the adult headache the next day!

What's next for Lala Loves Decor?

Now I have more time to spend on Lala Loves Decor, the first thing I was to do is get organised with all the admin which has been pushed to one side. Then I want to design and create all the new product ideas I've been thinking of for some time. I can't wait to get stuck in now I have more hours and see where it takes me!
