This week on the blog we caught up with Gayle Mansfield who's the lovely lady behind one of our favourite businesses on Instagram Gayle Mansfield Designs. I had the pleasure of finally meeting Gayle last week and it's always great to meet the person behind the business - and she's ace.

Gayle runs Gayle Mansfield Designs with her partner Steve but she is the one to come up with the fabulous ideas for the prints. She has a huge passion for interior design which shows through in her gorgeous Intstagram feed as well as her prints & cards.

Tell us about Gayle Mansfield Designs?- how did you start?

We started when we were renovating our house back in 2016, and looking for art work for our walls. We thought given our skills we could actually have a go at designing our own work. I knew I wanted to run a flexible business from home and we started very small, set up a website and launched 15 designs.

Do you have any kids?

Yes, one daughter

How do you fit your work around your kids?

I do the school run, do some exercise then work until pick up. I often continue after pick up while she has a bit of TV time and sometimes in the evenings and at weekends too.

Where do you find inspiration?

All my print ideas pop into my head randomly mostly, but I am inspired interiors wise by Instagram, Pinterest, restaurants, cafes, boutique hotels.

What did you do before the business?

I had a couple of years at home with my daughter and before that I was a project manager for a social housing organisation.

Any other independent brands you’d like to spread the word about?

I love Jane Foster Designs, Neon Marl, Seven Seventeen, Kay Barker Illustrations, Kemi Telford, Mama Designs and Disko Kids of course.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I love old skool Drum and Bass and techno from my clubbing days, Underworld especially but mostly these days it's whatever is on 6music while I fulfil orders, and whatever my daughter wants to listen to while we’re in the car!! I do have a soft spot for a strong female vocal though and used to spend so much more time actively seeking out different music to listen to!

Have your kids inherited your music taste?

We try to play her a wide range of stuff but I think she likes all the typical tween stuff mostly!

Party out or party at home - Discuss!

Party at home, good friends, good food and drink, good music! Going out I prefer restaurants or comedy nights. Have done so much clubbing and been to so many gigs in my youth that I now prefer to sit down when I’m out!

What’s next for Gayle Mansfield Designs?

Employing a casual member of staff to do our fulfilment and concentrating on getting our name out there more, releasing new designs, expanding our product range!
